Manicotti Shell with Italian sausage filling is a Mozzarella cheese recipe, which is easy to cook, but highly nutritional dish for the entire family. The dish could be prepared in one and half hours. Here is how to go about it.
- Fresh spinach – 1 bag (approximately 9 ounce)
- Italian sausage – 1 pound bulk
- Small curd cottage cheese – 1 carton (approximately 24 ounce)
- Shredded Mozzarella cheese – 1 package (12 ounce)
- Manicotti shells – 12 pieces
- Spaghetti sauce – 2 jars (24 ounce)
Boil water in a vessel and immerse spinach in to the boiling water until it becomes softened and its color changes to dark green. Then take out the spinach, and squeeze out and drain the excess water present in it.
Cook the Italian sausage over medium heat in a skillet, until it becomes crumbly and browned. It would take up to 10 minutes and is recommended to stir often. Drain the excess grease out and mix it with the dark green spinach in a bowl.
Add Cottage cheese and Mozzarella cheese to the sausage and spinach mixture and stir until the filling combines thoroughly.
Now take the Manicotti shells and carefully stuff the shells using the prepared sausage and spinach filling. After filling all the Manicotti shells, lay them side by side into a baking dish. Pour two jars of sauce over the shells.
Transfer the filled Manicotti shells to a preheated oven and cook until they become tender, but remain slightly firm at the same time. This will make the shells dense to bite and make the fillings hot enough.
Manicotti should remain in the oven for at least one and a quarter hour to one hour. Remaining ounces of Mozzarella cheese can be sprinkled over the Manicotti shells, which will melt in to the dish giving you an alluring essence.
